Nursery and Reception (EYFS)
Children grow and develop at their own pace and make the best progress in all areas when we follow a learning path that’s right for them.
Each day includes structured adult-led activities aimed at creatively introducing the skills which lead to reading, writing and numeracy. This will include group time, one to one or small group adult-led activities and independent learning opportunities.
As your child chooses who to play with, what to do and what roles to take, they will have plenty of opportunities for social and emotional development. There will be creative and imaginative activities for them to choose from and they will be encouraged to make use of our indoor and outdoor classrooms throughout the day.
What will my child learn?
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, which highlights seven areas of learning and development.
The three key areas of development are:
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Personal, social and emotional development
These areas of development support learning in the following, more specific, areas:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
As part of a flexible curriculum, your child will be encouraged to explore and develop at her own pace in activities based around each of these areas.
Settling in
We know that starting nursery for the first time can be a daunting prospect (for children and their parents!) with so many new things to get used to – new places, new faces, new routines and new challenges. We also know that children grow and develop at their own pace and make the best progress in all areas when they follow a learning path that’s right for them.
Our Nursery day offers the right balance of structure and active learning to ensure your son or daughter will gradually get used to the routine of school while having plenty of opportunities to explore and learn through play – and enjoy lots of individual attention!
Specialist teachers
Being part of a larger school community means our nursery children get a chance to work with some of our specialist teachers from an early age, with Sports, French, Computing and Music specialists leading sessions with our three and four year olds.
